Swissed MAGAZINE IS A CONCEPT BRIEF FOCUSED ON CREATING A TYPOGRAPHIC MAGAZINE ON A THEME OF OUR CHOOSING. WORKING IN A TEAM, WE WANTED TO FOCUS ON BOTH CELEBRATING AND SUBVERTING TRADITIONAL GRAHIC DESIGN so decided to focus on swiss design in particular. The outcome of the magazine focused on a flip book concept with one half of the magazine celebrating strict swiss design styles and the other half of the magazine subverting these traditional styles.
The first half of the magazine comprised of articles designed using traditional swiss design styles. This meant using a strict three column grid to present information with a clean and minimal aesthetic using simple colours and patterns. Simple illustrations using shapes were also added to add depth to the article while also following a strict grid layout.
The second half of the magazine comprised of articles designed to subvert traditional swiss design styles. This allowed more freedom to experiment with how the information of these articles was presented, often breaking the rules of a strict grid system. A clean and minimal aesthetic was also challenged with some designs using bright, unconventional colours, typefaces and imagery.
